2017 Erie Strong Campaign

Did you know that Erie's Public Schools spends only $11,890 per student in our district? That's less than 80% of districts in Pennsylvania and well below the Erie County and state average for per pupil spending!

In April 2017, EPS announced a massive reorganization of its schools in order to address budget shortfalls and improve academic programming for middle and high school students. The keystone of this reorganization plan is the consolidation of all high school students from four high schools to two, affecting more than 3000 high school students. On Friday, May 26, the district experienced an additional setback to its plan when a major fire occurred at Erie High School (formerly named Central Career & Technical School), where most of its secondary students were placed in 2017.

The Partnership for Erie's Public Schools, in cooperation with the Erie Stadium Commission and ServErie, is stepping up to support the district during this critical time. We, as alumni, parents, business owners and community members must come together to support our students during this reorganization effort.

The rebranding of Erie High School as part of the reorganization of Erie’s Public Schools represents an opportunity for the entire community to support the city’s one major high school. The slogan for this campaign is Erie Strong, indicating that students, staff and families are coming together to build this new community. They can and should inspire the rest of our city to do the same.
